by Leyla MohammedBuzzFeedBuzzFeed Staff Zara Larsson stepped out at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday night in an ab-baring, "mermaid-chic" ensemble. What a look! John Shearer / Getty Images Zara, 28, was nominated for the first time in the Best Dance Pop Recording category for her song "Midnight Sun," though she lost to Lady Gaga, who took home the award for "Abracadabra." Christopher Polk / Getty Images Unfortunately, things got a little awkward during a Grammys red carpet interview, when two reporters asked Zara if she had an acceptance speech prepared and was "nervous" about her nomination - without realizing that the winner had actually already been announced. John Shearer / Getty Images "You told me earlier this week that you do have a speech prepared, and you're kinda nervous for the actual moment," said TV personality and Entertainment Tonight correspondent Cassie DiLaura. Recording Academy / GRAMMYs / Via youtube.com In response, Zara quickly interjected and said, "Now I'm not. I'm chilling because Lady Gaga took it... So I didn't have to make the speech." Recording Academy / GRAMMYs / Via youtube.com Cassie and fellow reporter Taylor Hale appeared visibly surprised in response to Zara's comment, suggesting that they found out in real time that she had lost to Gaga. Recording Academy / GRAMMYs / Via youtube.com Salvaging the awkward moment, Zara went on, "But I'll make one for the next year!" Recording Academy / GRAMMYs / Via youtube.com Cassie then added, "You did tell me that earlier this week too. You were like, 'And the next, and the next, and the next year, I am ready." Zara replied, "Absolutely... This is just me soft-launching into the Grammys." Recording Academy / GRAMMYs / Via youtube.com A clip of the interview was posted to X, where it has racked up over a million views and a ton of heated responses. "Zara handled that well, but my god," one user said, while another wrote, "I'mma need that interviewer's @ cause what the fuck they being messy for???" Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images Someone else praised Zara's response to the entire thing, calling her "classy," while another user on Reddit echoed, "Zara is such a class act." Cassie wound up clarifying that she and Taylor were completely unaware that Zara had lost in her category when they questioned her. Replying directly to a YouTube user who said, "Asking if she's nervous about giving her speech after she's already lost her category is insane," Cassie wrote, "Hi! We were live and did not have the ability to know if her category had already been called. Just so you have context."
