A 19-year-old Illinois man accused of stabbing a pregnant woman to death with a screwdriver last week has been hospitalized after sustaining self-inflicted injuries, according to local reports Nedas Revuckas was listed in critical condition late Thursday, January 19, reported CBS Chicago. Corrections officers at the DuPage County Correctional Center said that they found Revuckas suffering from unspecified injuries in his housing unit at around 5 p.m. on January 19. Medical staff at the jail started treating Revuckas' injuries, the station reported. The alleged killer was then taken to a local hospital for additional treatment. Revuckas was arrested last week and charged with the murder of 30-year-old mother Eliza Morales, who was pregnant at the time of her death. The killing occurred on Monday, January 26, and Revuckas has since been charged with six murder counts, armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child and aggravated cruelty to animals. Man Dismembered Pregnant Sister Because She was 'No Longer Innocent' After his arrest, Revuckas told police that he went to Morales' home to pick up a bill of sale for a truck he'd purchased from Morales' husband, Gabriel, on Saturday, January 24, via Facebook Marketplace. He allegedly told police he got into a fight with Morales over the condition of the truck and stabbed her 70 times with a knife. Police said he then lit the couple's apartment on fire. Revuckas reportedly cried after he was apprehended, and police said he eventually gave a full confession. He even told authorities where they could find the bloody clothes he was wearing during the attack. It was unclear how Revuckas allegedly injured himself. No additional individuals have been named in connection to the incident. Revuckas injured himself on the same day he was denied pretrial release. Morales - who was a mother to a 1-and-a-half-year-old girl - was five months pregnant with her second daughter when she was stabbed 70 times with a screwdriver. CBS Chicago reported Revuckas was captured by surveillance cameras using the tool to switch the truck's plates. He then walked up to the family's apartment door with the tool; hidden behind his back, according to WGN-TV. Less than 30 minutes later, the footage shows smoke billowing from the front door of the home. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and soon after, found the murdered mom. Revuckas told police that even though Morales told him she was pregnant, he continued stabbing her. The cruelty to animals charge stems from Revuckas allegedly stabbing and kicking the Morales' family dog. The pit bull - who is said to have tried coming to the young mother's defense - escaped the apartment fire and is said to be recovering from her injuries.
