Macaulay Culkin paid tribute to his friend and former costar Catherine O'Hara after her death. "Mama. I thought we had time," Culkin, 45, wrote via Instagram on Friday, January 30. "I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you. I'll see you later." The actor included a photo of himself and O'Hara embracing in Home Alone alongside a more recent snap taken in 2023. O'Hara died on Friday at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness, her manager confirmed to Us Weekly. She was 71. 'Home Alone' and 'Schitt's Creek' Star Catherine O'Hara Dead at 71 According to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson, paramedics were called to the O'Hara's Brentwood home at 4:48 a.m. Friday morning for a medical aid call and transported her to the hospital in "serious condition." The late actress famously starred as Kate McCallister, the mother of Culkin's character, Kevin McCallister, in the first two Home Alone movies. Culkin was just 9 years old when filming for the first Home Alone began in 1990, but he and O'Hara developed a friendship and remained close over the years. When Culkin earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023, O'Hara was there to cheer him on. "I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do." O'Hara went on to praise Culkin for bringing his "sweet and twisted, yet totally relatable" sense of humor to all of his projects. "It's a sign of intelligence in a child and a key to survival at any age," she noted of humor. "Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I'm so proud of you." "You know, you made my kids' dad, their papa, look good. And the most important thing to me is also that their papa understands that he wasn't always his papa; he used to be a kid too, you know?" Culkin quipped. "To wrap things up, and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just wanna say Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals." "[When I see her], she opens up her arms - she goes, 'Son,'" he recalled during a December 2024 Q&A in Chicago. O'Hara, for her part, said she was delighted to pay tribute to Culkin's career at the Walk of Fame ceremony. "It was just lovely," she said during a January 2024 interview on Good Morning America. "He's a dear young man. ... I was honored."
