The father of a 7-year-old girl is charged with capital murder after authorities said he shot and killed her adoptive parents, a married Texas couple. Deputies found Christopher Lopez, 52, and Trinette Lopez, 52, shot to death at their Harris County home on January 12, according to county Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. An investigation led authorities to Norman Lee Johnson, 42, who is suspected of killing the couple over "custodial issues," the sheriff said in a Tuesday, January 27, news release. Officers with the U.S. Marshals Service's Lonestar Task Force arrested Johnson, 42, in Round Rock that day, according to Gonzalez. He was detained at the Williamson County Jail. Information on Johnson's legal representation was not immediately available on Thursday, January 29. "I hope he is judged to the fullest extent of the law," Christopher and Trinette's adult daughter, Kristina Rayson, told KTRK-TV. Investigators believe Johnson killed Trinette and Christopher because he had opposed the couple having custody over his 7-year-old daughter for a long time, according to the TV station. "My family took his daughter in when he lost custody," Rayson told KTRK-TV. "We raised her, loved her, and kept her safe." "We were repaid by him taking their lives, and taking away the family his daughter loved and trusted," Rayson added. The fatal shooting unfolded the morning of January 17, when Johnson's biological daughter had been asleep at Trinette and Christopher's home, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, KTRK-TV reported. The couple's adult son called authorities after the sheriff's office said he found that his parents had been shot and killed on the first floor of their house. Johnson was previously charged with harassment in October 2024 in connection with a threat to kill Christopher and another relative of the family, according to court records viewed by KPRC-TV. The threat came after the other family member reportedly would not let Johnson see his biological daughter unless child protective services were involved. Johnson is accused of previously assaulting this family member, they told KPRC-TV. After Christopher and Trinette were found dead on January 12, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences found Christopher was killed by a fatal shot to his face, the TV station reported. Trinette was shot twice in the head and was found with another gunshot wound in her hand, according to the TV station.
