Linklater's French-language, black-and-white is a deep dive into the making of Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 classic Breathless. The Académie des César released the official list of contenders on Wednesday. Following closely behind Nouvelle Vague are three French films with 8 nominations each: L'Attachement, Dossier 137, and L'Inconnu de la Grande Arche. All four are nominated in the best film category, joined by Jafar Panahi's Oscar contender It Was Just an Accident. Nouvelle Vague earned additional noms for sound, cinematography, editing, costume and production design and visual effects. Best actress nominees include Leila Bekhti for Ma Mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi for L'Attachement, Léa Drucker for Dossier 137, Isabelle Huppert for La Femme la plus riche du monde, and Mélanie Thierry for La Chambre de Mariana. Best actor contenders are Claes Bang for L'Inconnu de la Grande Arche, Bastien Bouillon for Partir un jour, Laurent Lafitte for La Femme la plus riche du monde, Pio Marmaï for L'Attachement, and Benjamin Voisin for L'Étranger. Nominees in the best foreign film category are The Secret Agent from Brazil, Black Dog from China, Sirāt from Spain, Sentimental Value from Norway, and Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. The winners will be announced at the upcoming 51st César ceremony in Paris on February 26.
