A 19-year-old is charged with murder in the deaths of his grandparents, who were found dead at their South Carolina home, according to authorities. Levi Kevin Jones is accused of fatally stabbing his grandfather, Larry Moore, 76, and strangling his grandmother, Sandra Moore, 75, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said in a video statement on Saturday, January 24. A family member found the couple dead at their home, located near Westminster, on January 15 and called the authorities, according to Crenshaw. "Subsequent investigation determined both were killed at the hands of another," Crenshaw said. "Mrs. Moore was strangled, Mr. Moore was stabbed several times." An investigation led to Jones, who Crenshaw said was "responsible for his grandparents' death." Information on Jones' legal representation was not immediately available. Jones was arrested at his home on Friday, January 23, after Crenshaw said investigators found the murder weapon. When he strangled Sandra, he cut off "her airway and blood flow," the outlet reported, citing the arrest warrants. A potential motive for the killings was not specified by Crenshaw. Investigators said they have determined a motive but declined to share it, WYFF reported. Jones is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. His grandparents were the owners of Moore & Moore Fish Camp, a restaurant they operated for decades in Westminster before they retired in 2016, according to community members who spoke with WYFF. Westminster, located in northwestern South Carolina, is about a 150-mile drive northwest from the state's capital, Columbia. The Moores were also congregants of Calvary Church in Westminster, the TV station reported. A fellow church member, Stacy Brooks, told Fox News Digital that the Moores "were always" at the church. "You expected to see them every time you went," Brooks added. "They were faithful people." "This is a close community, and something like this just doesn't happen often," Brooks said of the homicides while speaking with Fox News Digital. The investigation into the killings is ongoing and more criminal charges are possible, Crenshaw said. Jones is detained in the Oconee County Detention Center, according to the sheriff's office.
