by Leyla MohammedBuzzFeedBuzzFeed Staff Earlier this week, news broke that Delroy Lindo had received his first Academy Award nomination for his role as Delta Slim in Sinners. Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images Speaking of the huge feat, Delroy - who has been acting for over five decades - said that it feels "terrific" to finally be Oscar-nominated. "I'm still processing, if I'm really honest, but it's wonderful. And part of my response has to do with how positive everybody else's response has been. A lot of support, a lot of love. It feels really good," he said during an appearance on Good Morning America. Archive Photos / Getty Images This week, self-proclaimed "rookie interviewer" @DavidVision shared footage of his chat with Delroy at the Critics' Choice Awards, which took place a few weeks before Oscar nominations were revealed. Frazer Harrison / Getty Images "So you are one of, I think, our emerging artists in this recent age, with Da 5 Bloods, Sinners," David began, referring to Spike Lee's 2020 American war drama and the aforementioned Ryan Coogler horror. "What would you say an Oscar nomination would mean to you this year?" Kevin Mazur / Getty Images In response, Delroy motioned a "zipped lips" gesture and said, "Um, nothing. I'm not talking about that." @davidvision528 / Via tiktok.com "I'm also not an emerging artist; I've been around for a few years," he said. @davidvision528 / Via tiktok.com The interviewer then awkwardly replied, "Absolutely. Sorry about that," after which Delroy looked directly into the camera and laughed. Taylor Hill / Getty Images Reacting to the clip online, several internet users branded the interaction "disrespectful" and begged red carpet interviewers to do their research before speaking with acclaimed actors. "I'm going to say this constructively and respectfully. This is a position that many people would dream to be in. To interview Delroy Lindo on a red carpet. Please please please, if you are not familiar with the individual's full legacy, do some research. It helps a lot and makes a difference," one person commented on TikTok. @davidvision528 / Via tiktok.com "If you're going to interview people as a profession, at least do some research," another user echoed. "Had he walked away, it would have been totally justified. Delroy Lindo has been around for a very long time," one person said. "Calling Delroy Linda an emerging artist is so rude. He checked him quick," another wrote, while someone else added, "this is wildly disrespectful." (C)Buena Vista Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection The video was later shared on X, where it racked up over 1.6 million views in under 24 hours. "Even if you don't know him or his work calling a 73 year old an emerging artist is crazy business," someone tweeted, while another person agreed, "whatever happened to... interviewers and journalists doing research?" Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images David later clarified that he didn't mean to "disrespect" Delroy, writing in a follow-up TikTok, "Definitely didn't mean any disrespect to Delroy in pt.1, just fumbled my wording 😠All love tho! Let's get that Win for him." @DavidVision / Via tiktok.com Let us know what you think in the comments. Comments
