What a heartfelt tribute. On Louis Tomlinson's new album, How Did I Get Here?, he mourns the loss of his pal Liam Payne. In the track Dark to Light, Louis sings about loss while wondering if there's more he could have done to help someone in need. The artist is no stranger to heartbreak, having lost his mother and teenage sister before his One Direction bandmate's shocking death in 2024. In the song, out on Friday, he says: "It's over before it ends / Why doesn't anybody tell you that? / No phoenix in the flames / There's only empty photographs / Is there anything that I can do? / I wish you could see how you look in my eyes, one more time / Would it make a difference? Would it make you smile? / Could it bring you from dark to light?" He continues: "You told me to carry on / But I never listen to what you tell me / And I can't carry this weight for long / But I'm not over it already / Is there anything that I can do?" Hear it for yourself (below): Per The Sun, Liam's family was made aware of the song and lyrics before the release. Despite at times clashing while in the band, the two grew very close in Liam's final years, and the song shows it. While speaking to MTV Brazil about the song, Louis explained: "That's one I don't want to go into like proper, proper detail about really, but it definitely came from a very sentimental and heartfelt place. But also, sonically the album really needed a song like that." He added: "The album reflects my past few years and my attempt to maintain a positive outlook despite everything." He's been through so much tragedy, but to be able to turn it into a beautiful piece of work like this is so special. We're sure this song will resonate with so many. Thoughts? Let us know (below).
