Political commentator Lawrence Jones III revealed why he missed recent broadcasts of Fox & Friends. "Hey fam! I want to assure y'all that I'm doing well," Jones, 33, wrote via X on Tuesday, January 20, addressing his absence. "I recently underwent eye surgery and will be returning to work soon." Jones further promised to "share the details of [his] experience" in due time. "God is truly remarkable," he concluded in his social media post. "Fox has been incredibly supportive throughout this process, ensuring that I receive the best possible care. See y'all soon." Celebrity Health Scares Through the Years Jones has been a permanent Fox & Friends cohost since 2023, alongside Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade. "I feel like when it comes to the couch, you really feel America," Jones said during his debut broadcast in September 2023. "We have this incredible opportunity to represent our audience every single day on the couch, and I'm so grateful, humbled. I'm going to learn a lot from you all, and it's going to be a fun ride." Jones initially joined Fox in 2018 as an enterprise reporter. He subsequently started making appearances on Fox & Friends three years later in 2021. Jones' promotion to cohost also made him the youngest Black cable news host. "I started appearing at Fox at age 20," he said in a February 2025 interview with FoxNation. "I was in college, was doing stuff by my phone, which is kind of becoming the new media now. [I] then made my way to Fox News. Fox & Friends was my first show on the network." He said, 'I promise you, you stay with me [and] you'll have your own show in two years.' Sure, enough, I got my own show." Jones helmed his eponymous news broadcast, Lawrence Jones Cross Country, for two seasons starting in 2022 before becoming a co-anchor on Fox & Friends the next year. "When someone is hearing about Fox News, I think the elephant in the room is they don't expect someone who looks like me," he previously acknowledged in a separate Fox interview, which was resurfaced on the Daily Show last year. "I say, 'I'm a libertarian, you're a strong Republican, conservative man.' [The team said], 'That's not a problem. When we disagree, you just be you.'" "A year and five months ago, I stepped back onto the BJJ mats after not training since I was a kid," he wrote via Instagram in November 2025, referring to Brazilian jiu-jitsu. "My professor had me start from zero ... literally. It ended up being one of the best decisions I've made. Jiu-jitsu has become my escape, my reset, and my reminder to keep growing."
