The Plath's have been honoring late family member Joshua Plath since his tragic death in 2008 at just 17 months old. Kim and Barry Plath were married for 24 years before they announced their split in 2022. During their marriage, the pair welcomed 10 children: Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Joshua, Amber, Cassia and Mercy. In 2008, a horrific accident occurred on the family's farm in Georgia. Kim was using her car to move trees on the property and accidentally ran over Joshua. At the time, Kim was pregnant with her eighth child and thought all her children were accounted for when she operated the vehicle. "I had just seen him, and I thought it was OK," Kim recalled on a 2019 episode of Welcome to Plathville. "But I ran over him." "The mother was pulling the vehicle forward - she had been doing yard work - and thought she had accounted for all the kids," Investigator Daniel Singletary told Thomasville Times-Enterprise in 2008. "She had seven children, ages 15 months to 10 years old, and they were all outside playing. She thought everyone was accounted for, moved the vehicle forward and discovered she'd run over the youngest." Since the tragedy, the Plath family has continued to honor Joshua over the years. In one episode of their reality series, the family visited Joshua's grave to pay their respects. "I woke up every morning and functioned. But just barely. I wanted to die," Kim wrote on the family's website in 2019, per Woman's Day. "My husband was dealing with losing his son and his wife. I was gone. Checked out. Unavailable for conversations or reality." Kim added that while she struggled, Barry was a pillar of strength for her. "I thought of the accusations I would have thrown at Barry if the situation had been reversed. He never did. He never even hinted at anything like that," she penned. "He was strong. He just loved me." Barry Plath Barry Plath spoke about his late son during a confessional in a 2022 episode of Welcome to Plathville. "He lived a short life, but he made a big impression," he reflected. "His memory lives on through the older children into the younger children." Moriah Plath Moriah Plath opened up about witnessing Joshua's death during a 2022 episode of the TLC series. "One of the things I struggle with to this day is ... I was really close when he got run over," Moriah said. "I watched it all happen, so sometimes I'll still remember that like it was yesterday, like a flashback. When I go to think of him, that's the first thing I'll think of." Lydia Plath During a January 2026 appearance on the "Unplanned" podcast, Lydia Plath shared that she was in the car with her mom during Joshua's fatal accident. "My mom, like, freaked out, got out [and] pulled him out from under the car," Lydia, who was 4 years old at the time, said. "Then her and all my siblings ran to the house to grab the phone. Isaac and I were in the car, and I got out and I saw [Joshua] and it was terrible. I go back in the car and I told Isaac, 'Don't look. Just get out the other door.'" After losing Joshua, Lydia confessed that her family took the devastating loss hard. "Our household wasn't necessarily one to just talk about everything and be vulnerable when that happened," Lydia tearfully reflected. "We didn't know how to talk about it, especially with it being in the hands of my mom, we weren't going to dare talk about it around her."
