Ryan Reynolds wrote a letter to Colleen Hoover shading Justin Baldoni, and the actor's commentary seemingly references his character Nicepool. According to court documents unsealed on Tuesday, January 20, Reynolds, 49, sent a message to Hoover, 46, following the success of It Ends With Us, which starred his wife, Blake Lively. "You and B made something gorgeous out of ingredients you didn't ask for. Which is what makes you both in this whole post production team so clutch," Reynolds wrote. "I heard you guys got a tummy bug and you're stuck in New York. I can't think of anything worse." When mentioning the illness, Reynolds decided to throw shade Baldoni's way. Justin Baldoni Reacts to Marvel's Removal Request From Blake Lively Lawsuit "Although it might be your body ridding itself of any residual Baldoni," Reynolds continued. "I'd rather be puking in a gulag than hijacking performative feminism while practicing personal growth catch phrases in the mirror." Reynolds was seemingly dissing Baldoni, 41, for his nice demeanor and feminist nature. Those same attributes were part of Reynolds' character Nicepool in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Baldoni has accused Reynolds of mocking him with the Marvel character. Baldoni previously sported longer hair, requested an intimacy coordinator on the set of It Ends With Us and has been vocal about his feminism in the past, receiving a Voices of Solidarity Award from Vital Voices for his support of women in December 2024. In the movie, Nicepool, who is played by Reynolds, is a version of Deadpool that rocks a man bun and refers to himself as a feminist. The character has one-liners including, "Where in God's name is the intimacy coordinator?!" He also compliments Ladypool (voiced by Lively) for "snapping back" into shape after giving birth. In Baldoni's lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds - which has been dismissed - Baldoni's lawyer asked Marvel to preserve documents about Nicepool, including any information "relating to or reflecting a deliberate attempt to mock, harass, ridicule, intimate or bully Baldoni through the character of 'Nicepool.'" Marvel responded to the request by saying that the information was not for public consumption. Ryan Reynolds Allegedly Texted Matt Damon About 'Sociopathic' Justin Baldoni "The requested documents are particularly sensitive because they relate to the development of a character in an ongoing movie franchise," Marvel said in an April 2025 letter to the judge. "Marvel has built the success of the MCU in large part by interconnecting storylines, plots and characters across its titles, including 'crossover' events and sequels. Whether and how such elements will appear in upcoming, unreleased projects is the subject of much public interest, and this information is closely guarded by Marvel." Baldoni's legal back-and-forth with Lively and Reynolds began in December 2024 when Lively sued Baldonii and accused him of sexual harassment and orchestrating an alleged smear campaign against her. Baldoni vehemently denied the allegations and countersued. A judge dismissed Baldoni's lawsuit in June 2025. Lively's case remains ongoing and is headed to trial in May. Ahead of the looming court date, hundreds of documents in the case were released to the public. Included in the release were texts between Lively and close friend Taylor Swift, as well as messages sent by Baldoni to various individuals.
