Hollywood's biggest night will soon be in full swing at the 2026 Oscars, but first, the nominations for the 98th annual Academy Awards were revealed. Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks announced the nominees from California on Thursday, January 22. For the first time, casting will be honored at the Academy Awards, with up to two casting directors per film eligible to win a trophy. Plans are already underway to include another new category for stunt design at the 100th annual Academy Awards for films released in 2027. The 2026 Oscars will include 24 categories, each of which has five nominees. Best Picture is the exception, with a total of 10 contenders. 2026 Award Season Calendar: The Golden Globe Awards, Oscars, Emmys and More Conan O'Brien is set to return as the host of the awards show for the second consecutive year. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said in a March 2025 press release that they are "thrilled to bring back Conan" as well as producers Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney to the Oscars after "a hugely entertaining and visually stunning show that celebrated our nominees and the global film community in the most beautiful and impactful way." As for O'Brien, Kramer and Yang described him as "the perfect host - skillfully guiding us through the evening with humor, warmth and reverence." For his part, O'Brien, 62, joked, "The only reason I'm hosting the Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech." (After winning Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Brutalist in 2025, Brody, 52, gave the longest acceptance speech in Oscars history, clocking in at five minutes and 40 seconds.)
