The country crooner - who has never been shy about his past, pain, or progress - is now opening up about how his massive 300-pound weight loss has totally transformed his life beyond the mirror. Well, after the live premiere of Netflix's Star Search, the 41-year-old star sat down with Extra on Tuesday evening and got real about how shedding the weight didn't just change his body. No, it changed his soul, his mindset - and his parenting! Born Jason DeFord, Jelly Roll admitted that this journey has made him show up in ways he never physically or emotionally could before: "I've gotten closer to God. I've gotten closer to myself. I'm a better father. I'm more present with my children. You should see it, dude. I mean, I'm coaching my son's basketball team this year." LOVE IT! That alone tells you everything you need to know about how far he's come. And Jelly Roll didn't sugarcoat just how limiting life used to feel at his heaviest, either: "They're kids, like I'm not coaching like a competitive team or anything here, but ... I just feel physically better, and I feel like I can physically do [things]. Dude, when you're 550 lbs, you wonder if they have a seat big enough for you, you know what I mean? You definitely don't think about trying to coach a team. You wonder if there's a bench you can sit on, you know? So, it's like for God to just even make that big of a difference [and] to have the weight off ... I'm a whole different human." If that doesn't hit you right in the feelings, check your pulse. Jelly Roll has been a dad since 2008, when he welcomed daughter Bailee Ann, and then he expanded his family again in 2016 with son Noah Buddy. And let's not forget, this weight loss journey was never just about vanity. Jelly Roll has previously shared that wanting to live long enough to see his kids grow up, graduate, and thrive was a huge motivator. Oh, and it's also REALLY helped his sex life, too! LOLz!
