McAdams started dating Linden in 2016, a year after she was linked to her True Detective costar Taylor Kitsch. The screenwriter brought McAdams as his plus-one to a friend's wedding in June 2016. The next month, the couple made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con together. In February 2018, it was reported that the actress was expecting her first child with Linden after she noticeably did not attend the L.A. premiere of her film Game Night.
