Meghan Trainor is opening up about her decision to welcome baby No. 3 via surrogate. "It wasn't our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family," Trainor, 32, told People in an interview published on Wednesday, January 21. "We are forever grateful for that option." Trainor continued, "I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It's not something to whisper about or judge. It's rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork. Every family's journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid." Trainor and her husband, Daryl Sabara, surprised fans on Tuesday, January 20, with the announcement that they had welcomed a daughter named Mikey Moon via surrogate on Sunday, January 18. The couple also shares sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2. Meghan Trainor's Best Quotes About Motherhood, Parenting With Daryl Sabara "Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate," she captioned an Instagram post on Tuesday. "We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible." Trainor continued, "We are over the moon in love with this precious girl. Along with the announcement, Trainor shared photos of herself tearfully enjoying skin-to-skin contact with Mikey, as well as snaps of Riley and Barry marveling at their baby sister. The "Still Don't Care" singer told People that she had an "incredible" experience working with her surrogate, whom she has not identified. Meghan Trainor/Instagram "Our surrogate is one of the most selfless, strong and loving people I've ever met. We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I'll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter," she explained. "She gave us the greatest gift of our lives. She graciously answered our many check-in texts to make sure she was doing OK." Prior to welcoming Mikey, Trainor - who published a pregnancy and parenting book called Dear Future Mama in 2023 - opened up about the difficulties she had during and after her first two pregnancies. Trainor told People that she suffered from PTSD following Riley's birth, as he struggled with breathing issues and spent several days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). "Usually when you're being sewn up for 45 minutes, you're like, 'Look at my gorgeous baby. We did it. This is everything.' But I was laying there alone," she said. "In the moment, I was so drugged up, I was calling my mom, and she's crying on the phone, like, 'Are you OK?' And I was like, 'We're fine.' And then when I tell people what happened, they're like, 'Jesus Christ,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, that was kind of messed up, right?'" Meghan Trainor and More Celebrities Who Used Surrogates to Welcome Children After she returned home from the hospital, Trainor said she struggled to sleep at night due to the traumatic experience. "I would be in tears and tell Daryl, 'I'm still on that table, dude. I'm trapped there. I can't remind myself I'm in bed and I'm safe at home,'" she continued. "I had to learn how traumatic it was." Later, during her pregnancy with Barry, Trainor developed gestational diabetes. "I've been on a fitness journey since I got healthy. And it started with when I was pregnant. I had gestational diabetes," she said on KIIS FM in November 2025. "And I was like, 'Oh, I got to learn about health and fitness.' ... Now I'm obsessed with like how's my hormones? How's my gut? Because I just want to feel good."
