View this photo on Instagram @haileybieber / Via instagram.com Amid all the reminiscing, internet users are looking back on things that happened in the pop culture space in 2016 - and it's safe to say that a lot went down. Here's a roundup of moments: 1. Selena Gomez brutally called out her ex, Justin Bieber, directly in the comments of his own Instagram post. After Justin posted a bunch of photos with his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie, which garnered a TON of hate from Selena fans, he wrote, "I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate this is getting out of hand." Selena then commented, "If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol - it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you and supported you before any one ever did." Christopher Polk / Getty Images Justin later hit back with a cryptic message, writing, "It's funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love," and, "I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes I love my Believers." @lilbieber / Via Instagram: @lilbieber 2. Calvin Harris went OFF on his ex, Taylor Swift, and accused her team of trying to make him "look bad" when reports revealed that she'd actually been the one to write his hit song "This Is What You Came For," which features Rihanna. After confirming that Taylor did in fact write the song, Calvin tweeted in part, "I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym," before following up with, "I figure if you're happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do." Jeff Kravitz / Getty Images Things got MESSIER when Calvin wrote, "I know you're off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I'm not that guy, sorry. I won't allow it," referring to Taylor's infamous feud with Katy Perry. Yikes. @CalvinHarris / Via x.com 3. Poor Taylor was also at the center of a VERY memorable controversy involving Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2016. Things began when Kanye (aka Ye) released his song "Famous," which featured the controversial lyric, "I think that me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous." Taylor firstly claimed that she had never approved the lyric - and that she'd warned Ye not to release it. Ye denied this, instead claiming that they'd had an "hour-long convo" about the line, and that Taylor "gave her blessings." Kevin Winter / Getty Images A few months later, Kim told GQ that Taylor had "totally approved" Ye's lyric - something that Taylor's team vehemently denied. @kanyewest / Via bbc.co.uk But things took a turn when Kim later released what we all thought at the time was footage of the full, unedited phone call between Ye and Taylor, seemingly confirming that Taylor had approved the lyric. This led to a flood of hate against Taylor (fueled by some of the Kar/Jenners), which eventually prompted the singer to go into "hiding" before returning a year later in her Reputation era.

Elsewhere in the 2016 Kardashian world, Blac Chyna (who now goes by her birth name, Angela White) and Rob Kardashian got together - and seemingly lived 100 lives in the space of a year. From multiple breakups and reconciliations to infidelity accusations, to living apart throughout Angela's pregnancy, the pair captured the highs and lows of their short-lived relationship across their reality show, Rob & Chyna. The star was held at gunpoint by a group of men who broke into her hotel room and stole millions of dollars' worth of jewelry. Away from the Kardashians, Beyoncé dropped her hit album Lemonade with absolutely no warning whatsoever - and it gave us all a bunch of VERY juicy insight into her and Jay-Z's marriage.
