Former TV news anchor Angelynn Mock has been ruled mentally unfit to stand trial after she was arrested for allegedly killing her mother, Anita Avers. When Mock, 48, appeared in Sedgwick County District Court in Kansas on Thursday, January 15, Judge Jeffrey Goering ruled that she is not mentally fit to proceed, according to Kansas District Court Records viewed by Us Weekly. Following the ruling, the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office said that Mock has since been ordered to report to a state psychiatric hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The criminal proceedings will be paused while she undergoes treatment, per the outlet. In light of the ruling, the District Attorney's Office said that the case has not been dismissed, and the proceedings will resume once Mock is deemed competent. Mock made statements while talking to herself, indicating that she believed her mother was the devil, according to Fox News. Mock also allegedly told authorities that she stabbed her mother in order "to save herself." It was revealed that Mock suffered from mental health issues when her stepfather, Barry, told investigators she was previously diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and suffered from delusions and depression, according to court documents obtained by KAKE. "Barry remembered Angelynn was originally diagnosed with bipolar disorder but was later revised to schizoaffective disorder," the affidavit stated. "To his knowledge, Angelynn was on medication, but he did not know what type and only assumed she took it as prescribed.
